Detailed Design
33kV Substation

At the 33kV Substation, SB Power Contractors is providing comprehensive substation design services, including primary, secondary, cable, SCADA/Telecom, and civil design. The project involves the replacement of the existing 33kV AIS (Air-Insulated Switchgear) substation with a modern indoor GIS (Gas-Insulated Switchgear) substation, along with the integration of complete control, protection, and auxiliary systems. This upgrade is aimed at enhancing the substation’s efficiency, reliability, and operational safety.

Challenge

The key challenge of this project is to manage the transition from AIS to GIS technology while maintaining the operational integrity of the substation. With 18 circuits comprising both overhead and underground connections, the project demands meticulous planning to handle complex cable routing, circuit reconfigurations, and the integration of diverse systems. Additionally, ensuring the compatibility of new control and protection systems with existing infrastructure, minimizing downtime, and maintaining safety compliance throughout the process adds to the complexity.

Solution

• Primary Design: Development of high-voltage equipment layouts for the new GIS setup, ensuring optimal space utilization and performance.
• Secondary Design: Comprehensive protection and control schemes tailored to support GIS operations and enhance system reliability.
• Cable Design: Detailed design for both overhead and underground circuits, ensuring seamless integration with the new GIS infrastructure.
• SCADA/Telecom Integration: Advanced communication systems for real-time monitoring, control, and data acquisition.
• Civil Design: Structural modifications to accommodate the indoor GIS installation, including equipment foundations and building layouts.
• Auxiliary Systems: Design and integration of auxiliary power systems to support substation operations under all conditions.
• Compliance Assurance: Ensuring the upgraded systems meet grid codes, safety standards, and are fully compatible with existing network operations.
